Slice of Paradise – A punch in the night
by Ensign Sima Zulimar & Lieutenant JG Antonio Agostino
It was the middle of the night, and Sima was tossing and turning. She grunted and moaned, then began to cry. She rose out of bed, clad in shorts and a tank top. With bare feet, and tears streaming down her face she left her room.
Slowly she walked down the hall way, feeling as if she was running, when Sima arrived at Tonys room she pressed her thumb to the pad, a natural gesture for someone who lived on a starship. The door slid open and she walked in.
Sima moved around the desk towards the bedroom, where Tony was asleep, illuminated by the faint glow in the room. She bent down and pressed her fingers to his neck, while more tears spilled from her eyes.
The fingers on his carotid made Tony stir. The tears dripping on his face woke him a little more, "Mrph?!? Wazzgoingon?!?" Tony woke up halfway to see a shape hovering over him and felt pressure on his neck. He grabbed the arm and pulled it towards him, rotating so that he was on top of the figure, his hands holding its arms. "Lights!" The lights came up and Tony saw who it was and relaxed his grip, though he didn't completely release it. "Sima!?! What's the matter?"
Sima jolted, her eyes clearing, a scream erupting from her throat. She struggled against him, as fear rushed through her, "Get off!" One hand released her arm, in reaction she swung and knocked him in the jaw. She scrambled back against the headboard shaking. She looked around and confusion filled her face. She had no idea where she was. She balled up, still fogged up and rather baffled, and afraid. SHe woke up with a strong man holding her down, after the worst of nightmares. Her nightmare.... she gasped and looked over on the bed, "Tony!" she cried. She reached for him, but her hands were shaking badly.
Tony was no longer on the bed. The punch came unexpectedly and dazed him. As he was leaning forward when he was hit, he was unable to roll with it and his jaw and head took most of the force and he lost his balance and rolled off the bed onto the deck. He stared up wondering if he had been dreaming himself when he heard Sima call his name from the bed. "I'm down here." He tried to pick himself up off of the deck, but the room started to spin as he got up and he crumpled back down.
Sima gasped and turned looking down at him confused, before she realized he was really out of it. She slid off the bed, "I'm sorry I should have gotten here sooner!" she said with tears, her eyes looking for the blood and gore she'd seen on Antonio not too long before. He looked fine, which made her even more confused as her hand moved over his stomach and chest, confused as to why there was not injury on his body. She lifted his head and cradled it against her. "Whats going on?" she asked trying to piece together reality.
Tony lay on the deck, supporting himself up with one hand while rubbing his jaw with the other. The cobwebs were mostly clear now, as was the dizziness. He was really angry, but he was confused by Sima's question and let his irritation show, "You tell me, Sima! You are the one that nailed me with an uppercut!"
Sima released him and dropped away, sitting on the floor, putting some distance between him at her. She looked around, then at him, her lips opening, then closing, then opening again. "I... I... How did I get here?" she held her head and tried to consentrate. "I went to bed... then the ship was attacked... you were shot in your bed... You and I were on the comm just before they shot you.. I ran here and found you... well dead, then they jumped me." she said. She frowned, "It was a nightmare... obviously... because you seem alright, except for where I hit you.. I hit you." she breathed slowly. She'd thought he was the attacker. It still didn't answer how she'd gotten here. If this was just a nightmare?
Tony climbed up to the bed and sat down on the edge. Sima having a nightmare had sense, only she did not spend the night in his quarters last night. "I am okay, and the ship is well out of danger, or at least Klingon space." He looked at her again, "Perhaps you walked here in your sleep?"
"Sleep walking... I did that when my mother died, and when i hit puberty. It's been many years since I did that." Sima looked up at him from the floor, clarity flooding her. "I'm sorry baby, I didn't mean to hit you... I'm sure you didn't realize I was sleep walking... I was obviously on the defence and disorented." she said apologetically.
"Do not worry about it. It is a good thing you have permission to enter my quarters." He reached his hand out to offer her to join him in bed. "Well you are here now. Would you like to remain here for the rest of the night?"
She hesitated only a moment, worried she'd attack him in her sleep if her nightmare came back, but the idea of going back to her quarters alone didn't appeal to her very much. She took his hand and let him pull her up next to him. "Let me look at where I hit you." she said once she was sitting next to him. She eyed the spot, "it's going to bruise... I can fix it though... We'd have to go to sickbay, it's alright if you'd rather wait until morning." she said. The device worked just as well.
"I can wait until morning." He lay back down in the bed and pulled her to his chest as he told the computer to turn the lights off. Then he thought about it, "I'm sorry, would you prefer some light?" The room was always dimly lit as Tony rarely darkened the viewports, so the stars always shone through.
"No I'm fine." Sima's quiet voice spoke from where her cheek was pressed to his chest. She let her arm fall across his stomach, wide awake now, but certainly more comfortable here. "Believe me, i'm glad you invited me to stay. The idea of going back and sleeping alone after a horrible nightmare like that..." she shuddered as he pulled the blankets up around them. She shifted around until she was covered and they were comfortable. "I like you too much Antonio." she whispered. "That night mare scared the daylights out of me." When she closed her ee she could still see Tonys broken, bloody, and dead body. It was a horrible image.
"Everything will be okay." Tony didn't know what else to say that would be comforting, but that is what his mother had always told him to make him feel better and it worked. Other than that, he just held her as they lay there in silence.
Sima began to relax as Tony started to idly play with her hair, he seemed to be trying to stay awake until she was relaxed and asleep. She sighed and snuggled against him, feeling his fingers through her locks. It wasn't long before her body relaxed and she sleep once again over took her.
