Personality & Traits
General Overview
Josiah is a person deeply grounded to Earth. He is a realist by nature and does not usually stray from this path. He has a fondness for all forms of life and appreciates that they exist in this world. Josiah is the type of person who people don't respect easily because of his looks, but once you get to know the real Josiah, it's understandable of why he behaves as he does.

He tends to act out in really quirky ways and he doesn't usually like to talk about his past, and why he behaves as such. He's nervous and shy, but makes up for it by doing the most awkward things at the wrong times. The best word to describe him would be toon.

*Josiah is addicted to mochas.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Josiah is fairly knowledgeable in regards to Biology. He is able to be counted upon to do the right thing in any situation, even if it means being a detriment to himself. Whether he chooses to do this, isn't always what you'd expect.

Josiah isn't the type of person most people would want in their social group. He tends to over think, over analyze, and be quite overbearing. This, alongside his shy personality makes him quite emotional; though it's not easy to see it happening.
Ambitions
Josiah wants to settle down and make a home for himself. He also wants to, on some deeper level, reconcile with his parents and get to know them like he hadn't done so before. He also wants to be a part of a group of friends who won't discriminate against him and his actions whether or not they be appropriate.

History
Josiah was born on Earth in the year 2349 as an only child to his parents. His father works as an Engineering Academy Instructor while his mother is a Medical Officer for Starfleet Medical. Josiah never really had much time to spend with his parents, so he always was reading his mother's medical journals and his father's tutorials. Wit his parents so busy, Josiah was a trickster during his youth; always getting into places where he wasn't allowed and causing nothing but mischief, even to those he loved.

One time at 12 years old, he ventured out a little too far from home walking through the wilderness only wanting to follow a squirrel that had been bothering him in the days past. He was lead to place where a small black-market of thugs were planning something devious, and it was here that the squirrel chirped and unfortunately, these bad men discovered that Josiah had been there, watching, listening. He ran as fast as he could out of the forest, but to no avail and was captured by the men who subsequently beat Josiah into a state of unconsciousness.

One full day had passed since the incident when Josiah's parents figured out that he was missing. Immediately, they tracked his location on the planet and beamed him to Starfleet Medical where his mother performed surgery to restore his vitality. A few hours later, Josiah awoke from his almost comatose state with scars that would be with him for the rest of his life that not even a dermal regenerator could fix. His parents felt horrible about leaving him out there, even though they didn't realistically know anything until they did. From there, a rift formed between child and parents because of the guilt and shame.

Being an only child, Josiah never had other siblings to play with so he was always in some sort of trouble; sometimes he was treated like he was society's outcast and people had nothing but contempt for him. However, he did well enough on his schooling to earn him a place with Starfleet Academy. If anything, his father was instrumental in making sure that Josiah was taught to learn at a very young age.

Combining what he had learned throughout his childhood, Josiah decided to take General Studies in the Academy with a Major in Science. Throughout his studies, he found his calling was with Biology because he loved being around creatures. It was like he had the siblings he never had; that, and he still wanted to chase the proverbial squirrel through the Galaxy - always the explorer and glutton for punishment.

During his time at school, Josiah took his place at the Academy working as a Biologist at the rank of Cadet. He took care of the animals that would always inhabit the Academy's grounds and helped out the Science Officers in their continued approach to understand the few life forms that lived in the Oceans. He talked a lot with different people to formulate some idea of where he wanted to go with his career, and he knew it was a field in Science. The problem was that he had no idea of where to go until one of his fellow students pointed him in the direction of Nova class vessels.

Once Josiah graduated the Academy, he was promoted to Ensign, and assigned as a Science Officer aboard the USS Voltaire, a Nova Class vessel whose mission was to survey what appeared to be a space-faring creature just a few light-years away from Earth. He left Earth with relations between himself and his parents still quite frayed. He was left with regret and sorrow because of it; furthermore he would always act a bit out of sorts since Josiah was the type to let his emotions overtake him.

Suffice to say, the life-form which the Voltaire was exploring, wasn't too please about being explored, and the ship was damaged with the creature's own bio-electric defences; it killed almost the entire crew, which meant that the ship was towed back into Utopia Shipyards for repairs and re-crew. Before this happened though, Josiah was able to take sensor readings of the life-form before it escaped into Subspace through it's own unknown means. Coincidentally, Josiah survived the affair and was transferred off the ship for psychological healing.

As a result, Josiah was transferred to the USS Valhalla and made the ship's Assistant Chief Science Officer and promoted once again to Lieutenant JG. During another expedition, Josiah had helped in the discovery of a new species on the planet of Vellen III. Oddly enough, it was only a mutated form of catfish, but an important discovery nonetheless. However, because the crew had decided to go fishing during their time there, an outbreak of a rare form of salmonella which was ingested by an entourage of diplomatic officials on their time on the Norway class vessel. Once everyone recovered, the diplomatic officials filed a report against the Commanding officer of the ship and consequently was removed from Command and the ship returned to port for a full enquiry.

After that event was over, it was decided that Josiah be transferred once again, only this time to the USS Einstein as their Chief Science Officer and be promoted to Lieutenant. It was here where Josiah's tendencies of getting out of control took over and he once found himself in the Brig. To have this happen, Josiah had been found snooping through sensitive areas of the Nova class ship and was caught red-handed ironically sitting in the Commanding Officer's own chair in the Ready Room. However, having read Josiah's service record and having a merciful and compassionate heart, the Commanding Officer just gave him some hard Brig time to give Josiah the opportunity he needed to calm down.

Once out of the cell, Josiah put in a transfer request to another ship in the fleet. He had ruined any sort of chance he had at making a life and friends for himself. Coincidentally, the USS Aquarius was in need of a Chief Science Officer and Josiah went there. He didn't receive any kind of promotion because of his now tarnished record, but the Sovereign class ship was exactly what he needed; something big to keep his heart and mind pre-occupied. While on duty there, he met a great deal many of people and had grown up enough so that he could control himself when in public places. It was here that Josiah requested Command training and was enrolled in the Bridge Officer's examination. He passed the test, but his proctors were both shocked and amazed at the answers given because they were completely random and out of reality. Josiah was instated as the Second Officer of the Aquarius and served only satisfactorily from that point.

A couple of years had passed and soon Josiah became bored with his assignment. He was tempted to go down the same path of his errant behaviour far too many times for his own comfort and needed a new place to be. He humbly requested a transfer to anywhere in the fleet where he could potentially have a chance at fitting in. The USS Copernicus had an open Executive Officer position that Josiah leapt at the chance to serve on. A few days later, Josiah boarded the ship and was welcomed with open arms and the prospect of a lifetime. He was promoted up to Lieutenant Commander and served on the ship for what seemed like forever from Josiah point of view.

It was here that Josiah learned everything he could about proper Command structures and how to behave himself fully when he so desired. He was still the bane of the crew's existence because he now had quite a bit of authority in which he chose how to conduct himself. Oftentimes, he was found in various parts of the Nova class ship being a pain to the crew by doing mundane tasks and annoying the crew on so many levels. However, he was adored by the crew because he was prone to unexpected acts of kindness and his Command abilities shone with the Commanding Officer.

Depending on how one looked at Josiah's life, a new and most fortuitous place for him opened up. Triton Seabase, the only Lowell class Underwater Scientific Observatory/Laboratory was open for a new Commanding Officer to take on the tremendous responsibility of leading the facility. While Josiah did have strong roots with the Copernicus, the idea of having himself grounded, or at the very least stationed on a planet did have a lot of appeal. He put himself through more emotional torture and ended up with the decision to leave the ship and head to Triton Seabase. Upon arrival, Josiah was promoted to Commander and installed as the Commanding Officer.
